Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 26.1 to developers. This new version provides a definitive solution to a common problem iPhone users face: accidentally turning off an alarm while feeling sleepy in the morning. The iOS 26.1 update prevents iPhone alarms from being turned off with a simple tap and introduces a completely new mechanism.
Disabling iPhone alarms will be more difficult
Previously, in iOS 26, Apple redesigned the alarm screen, making the buttons much larger than before. However, these larger buttons increased the risk of accidentally pressing “Stop” instead of “Snooze,” especially during sleepy moments. iOS 26.1 Beta 2 added the “Slide to Stop” gesture to address this issue.
When an alarm goes off, users now have to swipe to dismiss it completely, rather than tapping. If they don’t want to dismiss the alarm completely, they can still tap to snooze. However, to silence the alarm completely, they need to use the new swipe gesture.
This new gesture addresses the problem of people who unknowingly or blindly touch their phone while sleepy, completely disabling their alarm. This eliminates the risk of accidental dismissals, which increased with the larger buttons in iOS 26, especially after the small and spaced-out Snooze and Stop buttons in iOS 18.
Apple’s new “Slide to Dismiss” button is located on the same screen size as the Snooze and Stop buttons. This gesture is familiar to long-time iPhone users, as it works similarly to the old “Slide to Unlock” mechanism. Therefore, getting used to the new gesture shouldn’t be difficult.
