Apple is taking a new step to expand its support for Car Key, its digital car key technology. New backend codes discovered by MacRumors have revealed that Cadillac is now included in Apple’s list of vehicles offering Car Key integration. This development suggests that certain Cadillac models will be able to be controlled using an iPhone or Apple Watch in the near future.
A new giant joins the Apple Car Key list: Support for Cadillac models is on the way
Apple has supported NFC-based digital keys in its Wallet app since 2022. This feature is gradually being adopted by vehicle manufacturers. Digital keys allow users to lock, unlock, and even start their vehicles using their iPhone or Apple Watch via NFC technology. This technology, which aims to eliminate the need for physical keys, offers significant convenience.
This support comes as no surprise. At WWDC 2025, Apple confirmed that 13 vehicle brands would soon add digital car key support, and Cadillac was on that list. Other brands announced alongside Cadillac included major names such as Acura, Porsche, GMC, Chevrolet, Rivian, Smart, Lucid Motors, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah.
Apple has currently added background support for GM (General Motors), Voyah, and Smart vehicles. However, for the feature to reach end users, vehicle manufacturers must also integrate this technology into their own systems. For Car Key to be available in Cadillac vehicles, parent company GM must add this functionality to the vehicles. GM has not yet released details about which Cadillac models will receive this support.
Today, some new models from many brands, including BMW, Genesis, Kia, Audi, Hyundai, Lotus, Mercedes, and Volvo, already offer Car Key support. With Cadillac joining this list, digital key technology is expected to become a more widespread standard in the automotive industry.
The widespread adoption of digital key technologies like Apple Car Key could radically change our habits of carrying physical keys. So, do you find this technology useful?
