Elon Musk signed Twitter’s biggest change, changing the platform’s logo. Preferring to use the letter “X” instead of the iconic bird, Musk signaled that a new name is on the way. However, it was claimed that the letter X used as the Twitter logo was stolen.
The new Twitter logo X may have been taken from a $30 font family
Elon Musk’s announcement that the platform will be renamed as “X” caused a big stir. Along with the name change, a new letter X logo also appeared on the platform. Many gamers said it looked similar to the icon used on Xbox. However, it turned out that it was taken from a font family that sells for 30 dollars.
The platform’s new logo is in the Special Alphabet 4 font family designed by a company called Monotype. In other words, Musk does not seem to have created an original design for the logo he has been emphasizing for a long time. It should be noted that Special Alphabet 4 is sold for 30 dollars on various platforms.
With the unveiling of the logo, Xbox fans couldn’t hide their surprise. It is very similar to the Xbox Series X and Xbox’s mobile app icon. This icon of Xbox was first licensed and launched by Microsoft in 2020.
The similarity between Twitter’s new logo and Microsoft’s Xbox icon questions Elon Musk’s originality in rebranding. Let us remind you that Musk wants to unite all his companies under X Corp.
We do not yet know whether the new logo used by Twitter is related to Monotype. However, it is possible to say that it is taken from the font family designed by the company. We should not ignore the possibility that Microsoft may infringe the company’s rights.
