Grand Theft Auto VI, potentially one of the most anticipated games in history, is eagerly awaited by millions of gamers. However, an unwanted request for an urgent meeting with Rockstar Games’ remote workers has raised concerns that GTA 6 might miss its 2025 release window and could be postponed to 2026.
Is GTA 6 being delayed? Rockstar sets up urgent meeting
The sequel to the open-world crime simulator was officially announced in December 2023 (after a major leak in 2022). Rockstar Games is working on the game set in the fictional Vice City, representing Miami, Florida.
The game was planned to release in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series, with the internal target being early 2025. However, the likelihood of the sequel being delayed until the end of 2025 or even 2026 is increasing.
In February, Rockstar Games mandated their employees to return to the office five days a week starting in early April. This sudden change surprised many employees and led to objections from some who were hired for remote work.
While the return to office demand was made for security and quality reasons, sources indicate that the development of GTA 6 is “falling behind” and Rockstar management is concerned about missing the 2025 window.
Rockstar currently targets an early 2025 release for GTA 6. However, sources say they are not sure whether the release will happen at the beginning of 2025, and a fall 2025 release seems more likely and feasible.
This situation keeps the possibility of postponing GTA 6 to 2026 as an “emergency plan” on the table. These developments indicate that the final stages of GTA 6’s development won’t be easy or quick, and the company continues its efforts to meet the 2025 target.
Rockstar calling its employees back to the office has left players who have been waiting for years anxious about whether GTA 6 will be delayed. What do you think about this situation?
