The Android Auto interface, designed for car infotainment systems, appears to be quietly removing an entertainment-focused feature with recent updates. Users have noticed that the HTML5 game collection called “GameSnacks,” which can be played while parked, has begun to disappear from the vehicle screen.
Google Rumored to be Removing the “GameSnacks” Collection!
GameSnacks, born at Google’s incubator Area120 and added to Android Auto in 2021, aimed to make waiting times more enjoyable. However, this short-lived gaming corner has apparently reached its end.
The removal process began to draw users’ attention last month. Initially, in Android Auto beta versions (which began with Android Auto 15.2), users reported that GameSnacks had completely disappeared from the app launcher. While it was still visible when initially accessing the launcher settings, this change has proven to be permanent.
Before this development, GameSnacks had been frequently plagued by technical issues. Users were reporting persistent and erroneous notifications that games could only be played while parked.
Until now, many users using stable Android Auto updates haven’t noticed the removal of this feature. However, new user complaints about the absence of GameSnacks continue to appear on Google’s support forums. While it’s unclear exactly which Android Auto version these reports involve, there’s a strong impression that the change won’t be limited to beta testing.
As new Android Auto versions continue to be released to stable users, it’s questionable whether Google will completely discontinue the in-car gaming experience. It appears Google is preparing to say goodbye to the GameSnacks collection in Android Auto, and users’ enjoyment during the waiting period may soon be over.
