Xiaomi recently entered the automotive industry by unveiling its first electric vehicle, the SU7, in the past months. Following this debut with Xiaomi Auto, the Chinese manufacturer has begun working on several new models. However, Xiaomi has officially denied rumors surrounding the SU8 model.
Xiaomi’s Public Relations Manager, Wang Hua, refuted claims of an imminent launch of the SU8. Last month, rumors emerged suggesting Xiaomi was developing a new SUV model, with images circulating claiming a July 16th unveiling for the SU8.
In his statement, Wang clarified that there are no plans for an SU8 launch and labeled the posters as fake. Despite this denial, speculation continues about Xiaomi’s product roadmap, including ongoing rumors about an SUV codenamed MX11. Spy images of the MX11 have surfaced, showing similarities in design to the SU7 but with distinctive features like roof-mounted gravel-shaped laser radar, side-mounted cameras, and yellow brake calipers on multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Initially, Xiaomi used BYD’s blade batteries in its first models, while the SU7 models are expected to incorporate battery technology from CATL. The upcoming models may further emphasize CATL’s battery technology.
Industry reports indicate that the MX11 SUV will be Xiaomi’s second electric vehicle, though an official debut is likely more than a year away.
