Today, Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi officially announced their decision to merge during a joint press conference. By combining forces, the three Japanese automotive giants aim to become a stronger player in the global automotive industry.

The merger has not yet taken place. Efforts will continue until June 2025, at which point, if all three companies agree, an official agreement will be signed. A parent company will then be established, with all three companies holding equal shares in the new entity.

Once the merger is complete, the newly formed holding company is expected to become the world’s third-largest automobile manufacturer, with annual vehicle sales exceeding 8 million units, trailing only Toyota and Volkswagen. The company’s shares are set to be publicly traded starting in 2026.

This merger is expected to foster more effective collaboration, particularly in the fields of electric vehicles and software development. To compete with strong rivals like Tesla and BYD in the electric vehicle market, the companies will pool their resources and technologies. Additionally, Mitsubishi Motors’ existing technologies will be incorporated into the alliance.
