Job hunting goes social: Twitter’s new venture

Twitter is reportedly developing a new feature designed to allow verified organizations to advertise job vacancies on their profiles. While an official announcement has not been made, the social media titan has already launched the @TwitterHiring account, albeit with no tweets posted yet.

Attracting talent through tweets

Several verified organizations seem to have gained early access to this feature, enabling them to list job openings within their Twitter profile bios. Prospective candidates can click on these listings, which redirects them to the company’s website for more details about the job role and to submit an application.

App researcher Nima Owji leaked a screenshot shedding light on this feature, internally coined “Twitter Hiring.” According to the image, Twitter proposes this feature as a tool for verified organizations to attract potential employees to their vacant positions. The tool allows these organizations to showcase up to five job roles on their profiles.

The screenshot also reveals that Twitter intends to let verified organizations import all their job openings by connecting to a supported Applicant Tracking System (ATS) or XML feed. This functionality will allow businesses to upload their job listings onto Twitter swiftly.

Stepping into the job market

This move doesn’t entirely come out of the blue. Elon Musk, the current owner of Twitter, hinted at the feature in May. This hint came in response to a user’s suggestion about implementing dating features on Twitter, to which Musk responded, “Interesting idea, maybe jobs too.”

With this step, Twitter plans to join the ranks of prominent platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed. Notably, Twitter’s acquisition of the job-matching tech startup Laskie back in May was its first after Musk’s takeover. This acquisition might have facilitated the development and implementation of this feature.

The new service seems to be available at no additional charge to verified organizations. According to Adam Ryan, the CEO of the media company Workweek, the feature is included in Twitter’s “Verified for Organizations” package priced at $1,000 per month.

While job listings are already shared via tweets, this new feature could amplify companies’ reach among Twitter’s expansive user base, making job hunting easier and more convenient.
