With the decision to ban Kaspersky products, the US government plans to stop all sales and support activities in the country. The ban includes the downloading, updating, reselling and licensing of Kaspersky software. The 100-day transition period will give customers and companies time to find alternative solutions.

New sales of Kaspersky products will be halted 30 days after the announcement. This means that in the US, Kaspersky products will no longer be available on store shelves or online marketplaces. It is also stated that the ban will not be limited to sales, but will also cover products that use Kaspersky services in the background. So far, Kaspersky has not made an official statement about this ban.

The main reason for the Kaspersky ban is that the US believes Kaspersky software could be used for malicious purposes. Due to Kaspersky’s ties to Russia and the current political climate, the US is concerned that the software could have the capacity to collect and weaponize the personal information of American citizens.

US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said, “Russia has demonstrated that it has the capacity and intent to collect and weaponize Americans’ personal information using Russian companies like Kaspersky. That’s why we had to take this step today.”

Last Chance for TikTok from the US

With an expected valuation of $100 billion, TikTok is facing an algorithm crisis. Will it be sold, or will TikTok be banned in the US?

In short, Kaspersky products are banned in the US and users will have until September 29, 2024 to find alternatives. How Kaspersky responds to this situation is important, as the US decision could lead to similar steps in other countries.
