Microsoft continues to cancel support for its older consoles. In this context, it was announced that the digital store for Xbox 360 will be closed. It will not be possible to shop from the store as of July. Here are the details.
Xbox 360 digital store is shutting down
Microsoft will close its digital store for Xbox 360 consoles at the end of this month. According to the company’s latest warning, the plug will be pulled on both the Xbox 360 store and the Xbox 360 Marketplace website on July 29, 2024.
Microsoft will thus end digital content support for Xbox 360. After more than 15 years of offering games, DLC, movies and TV shows on Xbox 360, the company will end the purchase option. Xbox 360 owners will not be able to purchase new digital content after the stores close.
However, Microsoft emphasized that all content purchased through the stores before the shutdown will be available for download and play as normal. Multiplayer access for previously purchased games will also continue.
Until July 29, Microsoft is also offering deep discounts on Xbox 360 games through the store. Prices have dropped by as much as 90 percent on many games. This is a great opportunity for those who still want to expand their library.
The end of Xbox 360 support is not surprising. Microsoft, which is focusing all its attention on the PC and Xbox Series X/S, also wants to expand its Game Pass service. The 15-year-old Xbox 360 will likely be relegated to the dustbin.
