Attorney Steven Schwartz came under scrutiny for relying on the chatbot for assistance. US District Judge Kevin Castel, who determined that the information presented regarding the airline company was incorrect, expressed skepticism towards the plaintiffs’ claims.
In the counter-defense presented by the airline company’s attorney, it was stated that many of the incidents attributed to the airline were fabricated. The use of the chatbot for the case raised serious concerns about the reliability of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, Judge Castel decided to impose sanctions on the plaintiff’s attorney due to the misleading statements. However, Schwartz asked the chatbot if it had lied to verify the veracity of the events.
ChatGPT claimed that the information it provided was accurate and could be found on some legal research platforms. However, it turned out that none of the mentioned incidents were related to the airline company. When asked for the source, ChatGPT apologized and stated that the incident was “anonymous.”
