LEGO is partnering with Climeworks, a major carbon capture facility in Iceland. Climeworks’ “Orca” plant can filter about 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide directly from the air annually. This is one of LEGO’s significant steps towards reducing its carbon footprint.
Known for its plastic toys, LEGO is also striving to make its materials more eco-friendly. The company maintains recycling and reuse programs and is turning to sustainable alternatives like materials derived from sugarcane. Currently, 18% of the plastic used is not from petrochemical sources, and they are working to increase this percentage.
Additionally, new materials like arMABS and ePOM are noteworthy. arMABS is made from synthetic marble kitchen countertops, while ePOM blends CO2 obtained from renewable energy and biological waste. These materials clearly demonstrate LEGO’s serious commitment to environmental sensitivity and sustainability goals.
