LG and Meta have decided to combine their technical forces. According to a recent announcement, the two companies will work together to pave the way for the next generation of XR experiences. LG and Meta to Collaborate on XR
Through this new partnership, LG will benefit from Meta’s XR platforms. While the specifics of LG’s upcoming projects are unclear, the company plans to invest its content and service expertise from TV operations into XR technology. The goal is to create synergy between Meta technologies and LG platforms.
For those unfamiliar, XR has been identified as one of the key growth areas by 2024. It is expected to be involved in numerous projects encompassing technologies like Metaverse, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR).
XR technology, already making its way into our lives through products like AR and VR glasses, promises to extend interaction beyond what is possible on mobile screens. LG CEO William Cho mentioned exploring opportunities for new “personal devices” in this field.
With the partnership, LG plans to invest in the metaverse and XR markets in the coming years. The Korean tech giant aims to drive innovation in virtual space experiences.
Last year, LG declared its ambition to be a leader in smart home and living solutions across various regions, including homes, businesses, mobility, and virtual spaces. Meta is now a part of its ‘Future Vision 2030’ plan.
