Some code found in Samsung’s newly updated stock apps suggests that the company will soon offer satellite connection support: With this feature coming with One UI 7, developed based on Android 15, emergency messages can be sent even when there is no cellular signal. Here are the details…
Samsung Could Save Lives with This Feature
According to new code strings found in Samsung’s updated Emergency SOS, Phone, and Messages apps, sending and receiving messages in Satellite mode will soon be possible. It’s reported that Samsung Messages does not yet support this type of messaging system, and initially, the Google Messages app will be used for this feature.
Apple introduced the Emergency SOS feature with the iPhone 14 series in 2022. This feature allows users to send emergency messages or call emergency services in areas with no cellular signal. Android devices also have a similar Emergency SOS feature, but they cannot use satellites in low coverage areas.
Google has been working with T-Mobile for a long time to integrate satellite connectivity into Android 15. There are also rumors that the upcoming Pixel 9 will come with the satellite-supporting Exynos Modem 5400.
We will learn more about Android 15 at the upcoming Made By Google event. This will also provide more information about Samsung’s stable One UI 7 release and the accompanying satellite connectivity support.
