At the Let Loose event held on Tuesday, Apple introduced the latest iPad Air and iPad Pro models along with iPad accessories. While unveiling many new technologies and features with the new models, the company avoided adding an important feature found in Samsung’s Tab models. Here’s the missing feature in the M4 iPad Pro model with an OLED screen…
iPad Pro with OLED screen does not have the Always-on Display feature
Announced as one of the most important features, the OLED screen was used for the first time in Apple’s history for an iPad model. While it has been used in iPhone and Apple Watch products for some time, all previous iPads came with LCD or mini-LED screens, depriving them of OLED technology. Despite having a screen with variable refresh rates, the new iPad Pro was not introduced with the Always-on Display feature.
For a long time, the Always-on Display feature, which has been used in almost all Samsung models, was expected for iPad models after iPhones. However, despite having an OLED screen with variable refresh rates, Apple did not meet this expectation.
In previous leaks, it was indicated that the iPad Pro would have an OLED screen and come with the always-on feature. While one of the leaks turned out to be true, the other was not positively received by Apple, as this feature was not introduced.
With the transition to LTPO panels in the iPhone 14 Pro model, Apple can activate the always-on feature since it has a minimum 1Hz refresh rate. However, in the new iPad Pro models, the variable refresh rate is fixed at 120Hz from 10Hz.
