MacBook Pro OLED launch may slip to 2027

Apple’s long-rumored MacBook Pro overhaul with OLED display technology could arrive later than expected. New details suggest the redesigned model, paired with Apple’s upcoming M6 chip, might not launch until early 2027.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports the new MacBook Pro with OLED and a thinner chassis is still on Apple’s roadmap. However, its release window now stretches from late 2026 to early 2027. This comes after delays to the M5-powered MacBook Pro refresh, which is now scheduled for spring 2026. That shift may have pushed the OLED M6 version further down the line.

The upcoming overhaul is rumored to include:

Such changes would mark the most significant MacBook Pro update in years, combining hardware performance upgrades with a major display technology shift.

While the delay is likely, history shows Apple could still surprise. In 2023, the company launched two MacBook Pro updates in the same year: M2 Pro/Max models in January, and M3 Pro/Max versions in October. A similar split launch could keep it on track for late 2026.

If 18 months feels too long, Apple’s M4 MacBook Pro models remain compelling. The base 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro is currently discounted to $1,299, offering strong performance and premium build quality.

The OLED MacBook Pro will be worth the wait for those wanting the latest display technology — but patience may be required well into 2027.
