With a recent patent, Apple has raised the possibility of using a glass exterior on MacBook Air and iMac models. The patent shows that I/O (input/output) functions can be used on the outer casing of the products. We may even see a glass keyboard on future MacBook Air models. So, will this design come to life?
Apple has received a new patent: Future MacBook Air and iMac models could have a glass exterior
In fact, this patent overlaps with a patent for an iMac with an all-glass exterior that appeared in March 2024. By using this new material, Apple plans to offer a design that is both stylish and functional. While glass is attractive from a design perspective, its biggest known drawback is its fragility.
However, if Apple can increase the durability of glass, it can take an important step forward, especially in terms of dust and water resistance. These designs could then better protect the internal components of the device. While the concept of a MacBook or iMac made entirely of glass sounds luxurious and innovative, it remains to be seen whether it will ever make it to market as an actual product.
Given the patents for such new designs, we can see that the company plans to use more experimental features and materials in future devices. What do you think about this? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
