At Boston Logan International Airport, a JetBlue Airways flight bound for San Juan, Puerto Rico, turned chaotic after a passenger suddenly opened the emergency exit door while the plane was taxiing. The incident caused panic among passengers. Here’s what unfolded during the shocking event…
Emergency slide deployed, flight delayed
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening around 7:30 PM. The unidentified male passenger who opened the emergency exit claimed he wanted to get off the plane. During the incident, the emergency evacuation slide was automatically deployed. While no injuries were reported, the aircraft remained grounded for hours, causing significant delays.
A JetBlue representative confirmed the incident, adding that the reason behind the passenger’s actions was unclear. However, fellow passengers suggested the man acted out following an argument with his girlfriend, describing it as a moment of “snapping.”
Fred Wynn, a passenger on the flight, recounted the event: “The couple behind me was arguing. The boyfriend wanted to check his girlfriend’s phone, but she refused. He then stood up, ran down the aisle to the emergency exit, and opened the door. Just as he was about to jump, an FBI agent tackled him to the ground. It all happened so fast—it was unbelievable.”
Passengers on the flight reportedly remained calm throughout the ordeal, and the quick response of the cabin crew prevented the situation from escalating further. However, the incident led to significant delays, turning the journey into a stressful experience for everyone onboard.
