Mate 70 series and HarmonyOS Next surprise from Huawei!

Huawei has confirmed that it will launch its next-generation operating system HarmonyOS Next alongside its flagship smartphones. According to the company, the Mate 70 series and HarmonyOS Next will launch at the same time. In this context, the Mate 70 family will be the first devices to use the new operating system.

President Yu Chengdong made statements at the Huawei Developer Conference; He spoke about the Mate 70 series. He stated that the company is targeting the fourth quarter of 2024 for the flagship models. This indicates that the Next update will be available in the fourth quarter.

HarmonyOS Next will actually be a turning point for Huawei. For the first time, the operating system will leave Android’s open sources and use Huawei’s software. This means that devices running HarmonyOS Next, such as the Mate 70, will not support Android apps.

However, it should be noted that hundreds of apps will continue to be officially available for download via Huawei AppGallery. The Next version will ensure the company’s complete independence from American technologies.

While hardware details are still scarce, leaks suggest that the Mate 70 Pro will continue the three-sensor display design seen in previous flagships. It will also use Omnivision sensors and offer advanced photo/video capabilities. In this context, it will have a retractable lens similar to the Pura 70 Ultra.

Huawei is currently beta testing Next on devices such as the Mate 60 series. The Mate 70 series will be the first models to use the stable version of the new operating system. Huawei said it will expand to other devices through updates in the coming months.
