Max to use Google’s AI for TV show and movie subtitles

Ana sayfa / News

It is undeniable that AI tools are here to stay, with large companies constantly seeking ways to leverage these resources to reduce costs and increase profits. This can also mean reducing the need for human labor. The latest evidence of this is streaming platform Max’s announcement this week that AI-generated subtitles will be featured in its movie and TV show catalog. Here are the details…

Through Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new subtitle solution in the United States. Initially applied to unscripted programs like reality shows, this solution aims to transform Warner’s subtitle creation and delivery process, reduce production time and costs, and improve the quality of subtitles for local audiences.

To maintain accuracy, the solution includes a workflow that uses Google’s platform to optimize subtitles with human oversight, ensuring quality. This approach allows Warner to continue improving its AI workflows, reduce errors, and consistently deliver accurate subtitles.

Critical development for HBO’s Harry Potter series

Casting for the Harry Potter series has begun. It was stated that the series to be broadcast on HBO Max will consist of actors aged 9-11.

According to the companies’ official statements, the AI subtitle workflow reduces the time needed to create a subtitle file by 80% compared to manual subtitle creation. Additionally, the process cuts costs by 50%, enabling Warner Bros. Discovery to allocate resources more effectively.

For now, this service is limited to a small portion of content and is restricted to the U.S., but it is expected to expand in the future.
