MediaTek has officially announced the Dimensity 8450 chipset, the direct successor to the Dimensity 8400, which was introduced in December 2024. As the name suggests, the new hardware serves as an interim upgrade, meaning the improvements are relatively limited. So, what exactly does the Dimensity 8450 bring to the table?
What Does the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 Offer?
The Dimensity 8450 is built on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm process. It features an octa-core CPU architecture with one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.25 GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores running at 2.1 GHz. For graphics, it sports a seven-core Mali-G720 MC7 GPU clocked at 1300 MHz. This hardware configuration is virtually identical to the Dimensity 8400.
Despite these similarities, the Dimensity 8450 introduces several software-level improvements, particularly in gaming and image signal processing (ISP). The GPU benefits from the new StarSpeed Engine technology, which enhances gaming performance. The chipset also supports up to 320 MP sensors and offers zero-lag HDR imaging. On the AI front, the NPU 880 now supports Agentic AI Engine, enabling on-device AI tasks and large language model (LLM) applications.
Lastly, the chipset’s 5G modem now includes a new UltraSave 3.0+ power-saving feature, designed to improve energy efficiency.
