Mercedes: 50% of sales will be electric by 2030
In a meeting last month, Daimler CEO Ola Källenius stated that Mercedes-Benz has adjusted its previous goals regarding electrification. Due to the slower-than-expected growth of the electric vehicle market, the company does not aim to go fully electric by 2030.
This announcement led to speculation that Mercedes had “abandoned” its electric vehicle plans. However, Mercedes-Benz responded to the rumors, stating that they will continue their transition to electrification. The company aims for electric vehicles to make up 50% of its sales by 2030.
The German manufacturer initially announced this 50% target a few months ago. However, according to the previous electrification roadmap, the initial goal was to reach 50% by 2025, with a long-term plan to sell only zero-emission models starting from 2030.
With market conditions affecting the timeline, plans have changed. Mercedes now aims to reach a 50% share by 2030. However, the company emphasized its commitment to electrification.
A similar move was previously announced by Audi. The automotive giant aimed to fully electrify its product lineup by 2026 but announced that it would continue to offer gasoline-powered models.
