Mercedes, in collaboration with US battery technology company Factorial, has made significant progress in the production of a new generation of solid-state batteries that will increase the range of electric vehicles by 80%. Thanks to the new battery, Mercedes’ electric vehicles will be able to travel longer, and will be safer and lighter. It will even eliminate the risk of fire.
Mercedes-Benz and Factorial are coming up with a battery that increases range by 80%
Factorial, one of the experienced companies in the sector, has been working on solid-state batteries for years and has made great progress in this area. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, this new technology does not use a flammable liquid electrolyte. This eliminates safety issues such as the risk of fire in vehicles.
In addition, this new generation battery can remain safe even at temperatures exceeding 90°C . This means that the size of the vehicle’s cooling systems can be reduced and costs can be reduced. In addition, let’s say that the new battery will significantly increase the range of electric vehicles with an energy density of 450 Wh/kg.
Factorial says vehicles equipped with the new technology will be able to offer a range of up to 600 miles (965 km) and the weight of the batteries will be reduced by 40% . Moreover, the size of the batteries will be reduced by 33%. In short, electric vehicles will be lighter, have longer range and be more efficient.
We would like to point out that Mercedes-Benz and Factorial plan to see vehicles equipped with this technology on the roads by 2030. What do you think? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
