Social media usage is increasing. However, the age of social media usage is decreasing day by day. Meta, on the other hand, plans to introduce parental control to protect young people. The company announced today that it’s introducing new DM restrictions on both Facebook and Instagram that prevent anyone from sending messages to teens.
Meta announced that it will introduce parental controls for teenagers!
Until now, Instagram restricted adults over the age of 18 from sending messages to teenagers who did not follow them. The new limits will apply to all users under 16 by default. Additionally, this age limit will be applied to users under the age of 18 in some regions. However, Meta said it will notify existing users with a notification.
Messenger users under the age of 18 will only receive messages from their Facebook friends or contacts. In this way, Meta plans to make social media platforms safer for young people.
Meta now allows parents to have more control over their teenagers. In this way, parents will follow the changes made to the default privacy settings. Previously, parents would receive notifications when teens changed these settings. However, they could not take any action on this issue. Things have changed now. From now on, parental controls on Meta platforms will also be stronger.
The company explained that if a young user tries to change their account from private to public, changes the Sensitive Content Control from “Less” to “Standard” or tries to change the controls on who can DM them, parents can block them.
In addition to all these, Meta is working to ensure the privacy of young people. However, he did not specify details about the content of the studies. He also remains silent on what is considered “inappropriate”.
