Meta is expanding its presence in the smart eyewear market in collaboration with Oakley. The company has announced its new limited-edition model, the “Meta Oakley” glasses. Unlike the previously released Meta Ray-Ban models, these glasses come with a more flexible and durable design for athletes.
Meta announces its smart glasses for athletes
Meta Oakley allows athletes to record video, listen to audio content and receive notifications during training. The new glasses are equipped with open-design speakers and microphones. The front-facing camera allows video recording at 3K resolution.
The video recording resolution is at 1080p. Users can pair the glasses with their phones to benefit from functions such as listening to music, following podcasts, making phone calls and interacting with Meta AI. Meta’s artificial intelligence system can answer questions about what the user sees using the camera and microphones in the glasses and perform tasks such as translation.
Meta Oakley is IPX4 waterproof. The battery life is twice as long as Meta Ray-Ban glasses. It works for up to 8 hours in typical use and up to 19 hours in standby mode. The device reaches 50 percent with a 20-minute charge. The charging case that accompanies the glasses can provide up to 48 hours of power in total.
