Meta is introducing its long-rumored Hypernova smart glasses in September. According to analyst Mark Gurman, contrary to expectations, Hypernova will be released at a more affordable price.
Meta will debut with Hypernova glasses
Hypernova is designed as a higher-end model of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. At the bottom of the right lens, the glasses will feature a small screen visible only to the user. This screen is controlled by a special wristband called Ceres.
The glasses will feature a Qualcomm processor and run a custom version of Android. The interface will feature horizontally arranged apps, including specialized apps like the camera, gallery, and AI. Touch controls are also located on both sides of the glasses for smoother use.
The price of the device was previously estimated to be between $1,000 and $1,400. However, according to sources close to the company, Meta has lowered the price to $800 to reach more users. This price is around the same price as the iPhone 16. The glasses’ different style options and prescription lenses will be charged separately.
Meta is introducing the Hypernova approximately two months after launching its first Oakley-branded smart glasses. Targeted at athletes and starting at $499, the Oakley model offered more advanced features than the Ray-Ban Smart Glasses.
Meta is also working on a project called Project Orion. Unveiled at the Meta Connect event, Orion aims to offer all the features of the Quest 3 VR headset in a lighter, more stylish form factor.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg describes the device as “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen,” stating that the future of computing will be shaped by these devices.
