Meta is working on a new tool that allows users to translate with artificial intelligence. According to the announcement shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Seamless M4T, which can translate both text and speech between 100 different languages, is now available.
Meta Seamless M4T can translate text and speech
Meta’s new AI project comes with several important improvements over previous translation systems. According to Zuckerberg’s statement, Seamless M4T can translate spoken words directly into speech in another language without the need for transcription. In this way, it reflects natural speech patterns.
One of the most striking aspects of Seamless M4T is that it supports text-to-text translation between almost 100 languages. It can also translate both text and speech in more than 30 languages. It represents the largest collection of languages for a translation tool.
Zuckerberg also said that they will integrate the new translation model into Meta’s products as soon as possible. WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook will soon be able to provide speech-to-speech or text-to-text translation for more than 100 languages.

Meta has released Seamless M4T as open source. This means that researchers and third-party developers can work on the AI model. This could help improve translation capabilities in many products and services.
Language translation is an area where tech giants like Meta and Google have invested heavily in recent years. Google recently unveiled a tool called AudioPaLM, which aims to preserve intonation and speech nuances during translation.
