Microsoft is flooding its AI department with cash
In addition to investing billions of dollars in key AI startups like OpenAI, Microsoft also created a new organization earlier this year called Microsoft AI. This organization is positioned as the brain of all Microsoft’s activities in the field of artificial intelligence.
Recently, however, the fact that the employees of this new organization have been receiving higher salaries than their colleagues in other departments has brought about discussions about salary injustice within the company. While the AI department is of course happy with these salary differences, employees in other departments are not happy at all.
According to information from sources close to Microsoft, employees working in Microsoft’s AI department receive an average salary of 377 thousand dollars a year. This figure is on average 120 thousand dollars more than other departments.
Although it is not possible to know the balance within the company, it does not sound strange that software engineers are paid more in a field as important as artificial intelligence. Of course, adjusting the salary balance between employees is an important issue for a giant company like Microsoft.
