Microsoft delays controversial Recall launch for Copilot

Ana sayfa / Technology

Microsoft has pushed back the launch of its Recall screen recording feature, which was originally planned to be available on new Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs launching next month.

In a blog post update today, Microsoft said Recall will now first debut as a preview in the Windows Insider Program before being more broadly rolled out to Copilot+ PC users. The company had originally said Recall would be part of the launch experience for the new Windows 11 laptops powered by Qualcomm chips on June 18.

Recall was designed to take images of a user’s screen every few seconds for easy search and retrieval of past on-screen activity and windows. However, the always-on screen recording capability raised privacy and security concerns for some.

Budget Honor X6b introduced with 50 Megapixel camera

Honor X6b was introduced quietly. The smartphone, which will appeal to the budget-friendly market, comes with dual rear cameras and a giant battery.

Microsoft said the decision to delay the wider launch and focus on user feedback is to ensure Recall “meets our high standards for quality and security.” The company added it wants to leverage insights from Windows Insiders before making the feature available more broadly.

Moving Recall to the Insider channels first will allow the company to test the feature with a subset of users and incorporate feedback before launch. Microsoft noted it is also adding additional security protections like encryption and authentication to keep screen recordings private.

The delay marks the latest change in Microsoft’s rollout plans for Recall since its original announcement last month. The company is clearly taking a more cautious approach after the privacy implications of the feature were called into question
