Microsoft developed AI more successful than doctors!

Ana sayfa / News

Microsoft has introduced its new artificial intelligence system that is four times more successful than human doctors. It is stated that this system, called “MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO), has the capacity to radically change both the accuracy and cost of diagnostic processes. It is evaluated that the artificial intelligence system can be groundbreaking in the medical world.

Mustafa Suleyman, head of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence unit, described the system as “a real step towards super intelligence in medicine.” The most striking feature of MAI-DxO is that it does not consist of just a single model.

Different models such as OpenAI’s o3 GPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, Meta Llama and xAI Grok take part in the diagnostic process step by step. Each artificial intelligence contributes to a different stage of the process, and thus a chain decision mechanism is created that mimics the multiple discussion environment between doctors.

The system was tested on 304 complex cases in the New England Journal of Medicine. In each case, the analysis of symptoms, the selection of tests to be performed, and the diagnostic process were carried out by the system in a manner similar to the steps followed by doctors.

In the test results, MAI-DxO’s diagnostic accuracy reached 80%, while human doctors’ diagnostic success in the same cases remained at 20%. The system not only produced more accurate results, but also offered economical solutions in healthcare by preferring low-cost tests.

This success of MAI-DxO shows that artificial intelligence can be used reliably not only in imaging-based fields such as radiology, but also in general medical diagnostic processes. However, some experts believe that real-world effects can only be tested with clinical applications.

David Sontag from MIT admits that the research results are remarkable, but states that no auxiliary tools were provided to doctors during the experiment and that this may not reflect real-life applications.

Microsoft has not yet decided to commercialize this technology. However, it seems possible that the company will use the system in services such as health consulting via Bing in the future or develop professional tools directly for doctors.
