Microsoft Edge is now featuring voice translation for web video content. This new feature allows you to listen to videos in foreign languages in your own language. Tested in the browser’s beta version, this new feature can currently translate between English, Spanish, and Korean.
Edge Eliminates Language Barriers
When you activate this feature, the video mutes itself and starts playing the AI-generated translation audio. According to tests conducted by Windows Latest, there isn’t a significant delay in translation.
If this AI-powered feature can achieve high accuracy and minimal latency, it could make Microsoft Edge quite functional for some users.
However, it’s noted that this feature won’t be easy for everyone. Voice translation requires significant system resources. 12 GB of RAM and a quad-core processor are required to use this new Edge feature smoothly.
The inherent RAM consumption of operating systems like Windows 11, in particular, can lead to a near-complete system resource drain when using this feature.
This can prevent the translation feature from running in the background on low-end computers and create performance issues when used with other programs or games.
Microsoft Edge’s voice translation feature is currently in testing. Tests are only available on some websites, particularly YouTube. It’s expected to take several more months for the feature to be made generally available. The company continues to make rapid progress in the field of artificial intelligence.
