Microsoft Office will be replaced by Microsoft 365

Ana sayfa / Technology

Microsoft Office was one of the most popular and useful productivity applications. Microsoft launched Office 30 years ago, and now the company changes the platform’s name to Microsoft 365. According to the announcements, the existing apps like Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint are not going away. However, there will be key differences between Office and 365. Here are the details.

Renaming Office to Microsoft 365

According to the tech giant, Office app for Windows, the Office website, and Office mobile app will become the Microsoft 365 app. The company will launch a new icon, a new look, and more features to the existing Office. This renaming will be the biggest rebranding of the company’s productivity software in more than 30 years.

Microsoft Office was the most popular productivity application collection, but it is time to rename it. While 365 is similar to Office, there are some significant differences. The most important one is price. When you purchased Office once, you had access to services and upgrades. However, 365 is a monthly subscription service, and you will need to pay for it. Microsoft also announced that “It will still offer one-time purchases of apps like Work, Outlook, and Excel for Office 2021 users and Office LTSC plans.”

Microsoft 365 will be the main application for Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Loop, Clipchamp, Stream, and Microsoft’s new Designer app. You will have access to all these apps via Microsoft 365. All new features and updates will be coming to 365 instead of Office.

Microsoft says, “There will be no impact on your existing account, profile, subscription, or files. The app will update automatically with a new icon and name, so keep an eye out for those changes in November and beyond.” If you would like to use Microsoft 365, you need to pay $7 per month or you can pay $70 a year.
