Microsoft purchased more than 1,000 acres of land to build a massive data center. The data center to be established in the US state of Wisconsin will be built in a pumpkin field. Accordingly, it was stated that a farmer was paid around 76 million dollars.

Microsoft continues to establish new data campuses to expand its cloud and computing solutions. The last of these will be built in the Mount Pleasant region in Wisconsin. While it was stated that it will be established on an area larger than 1000 decares, it was reported that the company has started work.

At the center of the agreement was a 407-acre land belonging to the Creuziger family. It was stated that Microsoft paid a surprising price of 76 million dollars to the farmer family to purchase this region. The family’s land includes the “Land of the Giants” pumpkin farm and corn maze, reportedly worth $600,000.

According to local sources, the Creuziger family received a big windfall a few years ago. The local government, which offered approximately $20 million to the family in 2017, requested that the land be sold to Foxconn. However, the farmer family, who turned down this money, could not refuse Microsoft’s request.

The technology giant purchased another 641 acres of land in Mount Pleasant, in addition to the Creuziger land, with an investment of nearly 100 million dollars. Microsoft estimates that construction of the new campus will cost over $1 billion.

The company announced that it will meet the needs of this region with its new data center. It will use the Mount Pleasant headquarters to power its growing cloud and AI operations. It is also thought that the facility will employ more than 200 people.
