Microsoft Shares New Details Post-Cyber Attack

Months ago, a cyber attack involving the US Department of Commerce’s email accounts appeared to be a minor incident for Microsoft. However, new information has surfaced indicating that this cyber attack by Russian hackers led to the breach of email data from a total of 27 business partners.

According to information from Microsoft, the attack was orchestrated by Storm-0558, a well-known Russian hacker group. This group had previously targeted US ‘.gov’ websites and attempted to disrupt various government institutions, and now they have targeted Microsoft.

Cancelled Xbox console by Microsoft emerges

The console codenamed Xbox Keystone, which Microsoft decided to cancel at the last moment, has surfaced for the first time.

The tech giant stated that they have been in contact with the affected institutions and that the accounts are currently secure. The attack occurred at the peak of cyber warfare between Russia and the US, leading both governments to blame each other, with Russia ultimately denying the allegations.

Microsoft’s previous claims of a minor breach now seem questionable. Initially, the company claimed that no personal data was compromised. However, this week, they disclosed that 27 different companies were affected. The uncertainty about how the hackers obtained the email data and their intentions for using it is a significant concern for the companies involved.
