Microsoft Teams now available on Safari and Firefox browsers

The newly updated Microsoft Teams web version works on popular browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge. For Mozilla Firefox, this version is enabled on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Safari supports the new Teams for macOS.

Linux users can access the new Teams via a Progressive Web App (PWA) associated with Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Microsoft states that this new web version is designed for faster loading and operation.

The new Teams application can be activated with a button in the upper-right corner. However, your browser must be set to allow third-party cookies. The software also works only on desktop devices, including laptops.

Some features may be missing in the new web version. For example, you can’t receive notifications from multiple accounts simultaneously. Pop-up windows for chats and channel content available in the desktop app are not present in the web version. Additionally, some rendering features like virtual avatars and video background effects are disabled. However, some features like background blur filters are available.

While Microsoft claims this new Teams version will be lighter and resource-friendly, users should be aware of the potentially missing features. The app may fulfill some basic functions but might not offer the full experience of the desktop version.
