Microsoft has stepped up its efforts to migrate Windows 10 users to Windows 11. The company has begun to show more frequent messages about the legacy operating system nearing the end of its lifecycle. On various support pages, including the Windows installation media creation page, users are told that support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025.
In these warning messages, Microsoft makes it clear that after October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates, technical support or security fixes for Windows 10. The warnings encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11 contain more information about the end of life of Windows 10.
Microsoft has also recently made changes to Windows documentation and support pages. For example, it updated its support article recommending users to buy a new PC if they want to upgrade to Windows 11 from older systems. It also highlighted a study showing that Windows 11 offers significant performance advantages over Windows 10.
In a February ad, Microsoft explained to users why upgrading to Windows 11 is a better option. This approach suggests that the tech giant wants to convince Windows 10 users to upgrade to the new operating system before support expires.
It’s worth noting that free security updates for Windows 10 will end after October 2025, after which the company will charge for extended security updates (ESUs).
