Microsoft has added a new AI-powered update to its Word app. With this update, Word documents can now be summarized using a voice assistant, and these summaries are converted into audio content in podcast format and presented to the user. This feature is powered by Microsoft’s Copilot artificial intelligence technology.
Microsoft Word Offers AI Support
This new feature has been developed to make written content easier to digest. When a user uploads a Word document of at least 100 words, the system automatically summarizes the text and presents it with an audio narration. Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can take advantage of this service in both the desktop Word app and the web version.
The update includes not only audio reading but also other content management features. Users can save audio summaries to their OneDrive accounts. These recordings can be replayed later or shared with others. Furthermore, the audio speed can be adjusted to your preference while listening, and specific sections within the summary can be easily accessed and edited.
The system currently only supports English content. No information has been released regarding when support for other languages will be available. Storage options are also limited. Summaries are only allowed to be stored on OneDrive or SharePoint. This choice is considered part of Microsoft’s policy of supporting only tools within its own ecosystem.
It’s not yet clear how the feature will be received by a wider user base. However, Microsoft continues to integrate generative AI tools into popular applications like Word. This step combines text editing with voice content creation, offering a new way to use it in terms of both time savings and accessibility.
