Microsoft has started to move the controversial advertising feature from Windows 11 to Windows 10. Accordingly, the company has started testing the Account Manager in the latest preview versions of Windows 10. With this feature, Microsoft 365 ads have also been moved to the Start section.
Ads are coming to the Windows 10 Start menu
With Windows 11, Microsoft has moved account management to a menu called Account Manager. It has made this menu accessible directly in Start. However, this feature comes with an interface that includes Microsoft 365 ads instead of the classic profile menu.
The options to sign out, lock, and switch accounts are now accessible via the three-dot submenu. Users believe that profile controls have been pushed back to bring Microsoft 365 to the forefront. This controversial change will now be available in Windows 10.
Account Manager is currently disabled by default in Windows 10 previews. However, some users who enabled the feature said that it has a similar interface to Windows 11’s Start menu.
Users are also wondering why Windows 11 has changed to Windows 10, which will end official support next year. It is currently unclear whether Microsoft will bring the Account Manager to all Windows 10 devices.
On the other hand, the company recently backtracked on the ads it showed in Windows 10 and Windows 11. It confirmed that it will no longer show various ads through monthly security updates
