Microsoft has started developing a new artificial intelligence model to be used by US intelligence agencies, especially the CIA. New documents have revealed the agreement between the company and US agencies.
Microsoft developed artificial intelligence for US intelligence
William Chappell, Microsoft’s Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, discussed the details of the “secret” AI service. He confirmed that the productive AI model developed by the company has been in use on the government network since last week.
The new model developed by Microsoft is the first AI that does not connect to the internet or learn from external data. The company aims to prevent the leak of sensitive information belonging to organizations such as the CIA and FBI.
The as yet unnamed system is powered by the same GPT-4 architecture as the Copilot assistant. However, it can only be used within approved networks and is only accessible to certain people. The secret AI is currently available. But it will undergo further testing and approval.
The Microsoft Executive said the system can process and understand confidential data. However, it cannot learn without internet access and therefore cannot update its information over time.
It is not surprising that Microsoft is designing a special artificial intelligence for the CIA and FBI. We should not ignore the Copilot-induced data leak in the US Congress a while ago.
