Following an extensive beta period, the macOS Gmail client Mimestream, developed by former Apple engineer Neil Jhaveri, is now officially released. The long-awaited Mimestream 1.0 is now out of the beta stage, after over two years of rigorous testing and development.
A Familiar UI and Exclusive Access
Written in Swift and crafted with AppKit and SwiftUI, Mimestream offers a clean interface that Apple Mail users will find comfortably familiar. Yet, the application exclusively serves Gmail users, though support for other email services is under consideration. Mimestream deploys the Gmail API instead of a standard IMAP connection, enabling features like categorized inboxes, aliases, server-side filters, labels, templates, and more.
Fully Integrated with macOS
Mimestream provides comprehensive integration with macOS, offering system-level notifications, Dark Mode support, keyboard shortcuts, and email profiles linking to Focus Filters. It even supports multiple Gmail accounts within a unified inbox. With the 1.0 release, Mimestream also introduced Profiles, allowing separation of Gmail accounts into “Work” and “Personal”, and the assignment of distinct icons and colors to each.
During its extensive free beta stage, Mimestream saw more than 220 updates and over 100 features added. Originally developed by a solo developer, the startup has now grown into a five-person team.
Mimestream 1.0: What’s new?
As the beta phase concludes, Mimestream transitions into a paid service. Mimestream 1.0 is priced at $4.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly. However, a special launch offer gives a discounted price of $29.99 for the first year until June 9. A free 14-day trial is also available, with no credit card details required.
The app’s beta users, which number over 167,000, will find their access expiring on May 26, 2023. However, they can transition to the 14-day trial of Mimestream 1.0 to experience the new features. For users on macOS 11 or 10.15, the existing beta versions will continue to function. For future plans, users can refer to the company’s roadmap.
