Xbox appears to have leaked the iconic game in a new ad. This leak has fueled expectations that the legendary original Modern Warfare 2 will be added to Game Pass. Microsoft has previously leaked similar content.
How did the original Modern Warfare 2 appear in the ad?
Microsoft released a new ad promoting a $1 trial for Game Pass Premium. A Reddit user (TypicalNarr) noticed an interesting detail in the ad. The collage in the background of the ad featured the cover photo of the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. It’s noteworthy that this image is the original game, not the remastered version released in 2020.
This isn’t the first sign that the iconic shooter is coming to the service. Earlier this year, XboxEra reported, citing sources close to Microsoft. The report suggested that the original MW2 would be added to Game Pass in March-April 2025. This dateframe hasn’t materialized. However, a 2022 reboot was added to the service in May, instead of the 2009 version. If the new ad is accurate, XboxEra’s report may simply be off on the timing.
If Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is added to the library, it will be the sixth Call of Duty game. Black Ops 7 is expected to launch on November 14th. However, it remains unclear whether the game will be released with its full content. It’s more likely that Microsoft will only offer the single-player campaign to keep players from the latest CoD release. This move would also allow longtime fans to revisit classic missions.
