Mortal Kombat 2 was ready to strike this October, but Warner Bros. and New Line have hit pause. The upcoming sequel has been delayed and is now scheduled to launch in theaters on May 15, 2026.

Originally set for October 24, Mortal Kombat 2 will now drop at the start of summer, a window typically reserved for high-stakes blockbusters. Rayman turns 30 as Ubisoft confirms a new project is in the works—though fans shouldn’t expect major news anytime soon.

The Boys’ star Karl Urban headlines the sequel as Johnny Cage, a fan-favorite character who was notably absent from the first film. While fans wait for the sequel, there’s still something coming in 2025. Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios are releasing the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection on December 12. This retro bundle includes the first four arcade classics, as well as Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Special Forces.

Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 1 has wrapped its DLC roadmap, meaning no new content is planned for the current title.

MK fans hoping to see Johnny Cage on the big screen will need to hold out a little longer—but with a prime release slot and a fan-favorite lead, it might just be worth the wait.
