Mortal Kombat 3 is coming

The video game adaptation of the Mortal Kombat series continues its journey on the big screen. While the second film in the series, Mortal Kombat 2, has not yet been released, the studio has already announced that it has begun preparations for the third film. This development demonstrates the great confidence Warner Bros. has in the second film.

The first Mortal Kombat film, released in 2021, was successful enough to continue the series, despite not breaking box office records, and launched a new franchise. The highly anticipated second film, Mortal Kombat 2, will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026.

While fans await the second film, surprising news came from the Mortal Kombat team at New York Comic-Con. The team officially announced that preparations for the third film have begun. Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy), who wrote Mortal Kombat 2, will also write the script.

Warner Bros. The fact that Warner Bros. and New Line studios have already greenlit the third film demonstrates the high level of confidence in Mortal Kombat 2. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater states that the studios are very happy and excited about the second film. Slater explains, “They commissioned me to write the third film because they thought there was a huge fanbase waiting for this one.”

Mortal Kombat 2 features returning cast members from the first film. The cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Josh Lawson, and Joe Taslim. The most notable addition to the series is Karl Urban, known for his work on The Boys. Urban will portray Johnny Cage, one of the games’ iconic characters.

The posts indicate that Johnny Cage will play a central role in the new film. In addition to Johnny Cage, the new film will also feature popular characters such as Shao Kan and Kitana.
