Mortal Kombat Bids Farewell to Mobile
According to QA analyst Tony Lazzara, NetherRealm’s mobile team will soon officially shut down. Lazzara did not specify the reasons for the closure or the number of employees affected.
While Lazzara’s report is currently the only source of information about the studio’s closure, three different NetherRealm employees have confirmed this information. One of the other developers was also seen applying for jobs on LinkedIn.
With NetherRealm yet to make an official statement, the future of the studio’s mobile games remains uncertain. However, it is expected that games like Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice 2 will be removed from both iOS and Android platforms soon.
Warner Bros’ gaming division is currently experiencing a tumultuous period. On one hand, the release of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” in February was a major disappointment, leading to a $200 million loss for WB. On the other hand, last year’s single-player RPG “Hogwarts Legacy” has served as a savior for WB Games, selling millions of copies.
