While Microsoft is preparing to end support for Windows 10, it continues to invite users to Windows 11. But even two years after its launch, the newest operating system is struggling to gain market share.
Most popular Windows (December 2023)
According to Statcounter’s December 2023 data, Windows 11 is used by 26.5 percent of all Windows devices. This means that it decreased compared to the previous month’s usage rates of 26.6 percent. The numbers show that Microsoft failed to attract users even though it made the artificial intelligence Copilot available.
Windows 10, which is outdated but still popular, holds approximately 67.4 percent of the user base. This shows that Windows continues to dominate the market. However, since Windows 10 support will end in 2025, they are challenging their last leadership in market share.
Analysts expect Windows 11 to start growing as Windows 10’s expiration date approaches. However, the need for a powerful system due to its excessive features reduces the interest in Windows 11.
- Windows 10: 67.46 percent
- Windows 11: 26.54 percent
- Windows 7: 3.34 percent
- Windows 8.1: 1.66 percent
- Windows XP: 0.64 percent
Microsoft’s work to attract users from Windows 10 to the new operating system continues. However, it should be reminded that bigger question marks such as Windows 12 emerge in 2024.
