In recent years, technology has advanced significantly, and this has been most notably observed in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Of course, this progress has brought along various problems, and one of these problems is the use of deepfake technology, where famous individuals are often targeted. World-renowned YouTuber MrBeast has become the latest victim of deepfake.
MrBeast’s deepfake video has emerged! He conducted an iPhone 15 Pro giveaway for 10 thousand people
For those who are unaware, deepfake refers to fake videos or images of a person created using artificial neural networks. From government ministers to celebrities, YouTubers to business people, unfortunately, deepfake videos are created for many individuals. And often, it’s done by scammers.
Scammers who keep up with evolving technology create deepfake videos for the purpose of fraud, believing that people will trust famous personalities. In these videos, they typically ask viewers to click on a link or directly recommend a product. The latest example of this is MrBeast, who has over 150 million subscribers on YouTube.
MrBeast shared the deepfake video that surfaced on TikTok with his followers through a post on Twitter (or X, as it’s now called). In this fake video, which was shared through advertisements on the platform, MrBeast claimed that he would be giving away Apple’s newly introduced iPhone 15 Pro model to nearly 10 thousand people in the near future. The main point here was to click on the link to participate in this giveaway. It’s likely that the information of those who clicked would be compromised.
There is a significant detail in the deepfake video noticed by MrBeast’s followers. This is the fact that the fake account sharing the video was verified. At this point, all eyes turn to TikTok, as the presence of the verification mark has made it unclear how many users believed this fake video.
So, what are your thoughts on this matter? What measures do you think can be taken against the increasingly prevalent deepfake technology in recent times? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
