YouTube has been offering gaming experiences on the platform for some time. Recent reports revealed that the company is testing online gaming services. Thanks to a tool called Playables, it will be possible to play online games on YouTube.
YouTube Playables will be multiplayer
YouTube is rolling out multiplayer to enhance its in-app gaming platform Playables. The new feature, first tested in Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3, allows players to compete against each other regardless of desktop or mobile device.
First launched in beta in September last year and expanded to all YouTube Premium members in May, Playables now offers more than 100 games in a variety of categories including action, sports, trivia and puzzles.
The multiplayer experience seems to create a more interactive environment in the Playables ecosystem. Players will now be able to compete and share experiences with friends or other YouTube users in real time.
YouTube hopes that this move will increase user engagement and strengthen its position in the world of in-app gaming. The company also said that this is the first step in expanding Playables’ features, with more updates and additions to come in the coming months.
It’s important to note that the Playables feature is currently in testing and accessible to select users. So it is unclear for now when YouTube will get full-scale gaming support.
