The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA for short, lost communication with the Ingenuity Mars helicopter it used on the Red Planet. A new statement came from NASA about this small helicopter, which has accomplished many important works. Here are all the details…
Ingenuity Mars helicopter will no longer be able to fly
For those who don’t know, the Ingenuity helicopter was launched to Mars in February 2021. This helicopter, which is 19 inches (49 cm) long and weighs 4 kilograms, achieved a historical success by becoming the first powered aircraft to take off from the surface of Mars on April 19, 2021.
Ingenuity Mars helicopter will no longer be able to fly
Initially, Ingenuity was only going to make 5 test flights according to plans. But he made more than 70 flights and stayed in the air for more than 2 hours in total. Thus, it was proven that controlled flight on Mars was possible. However, according to recent developments, this helicopter has now expired.
NASA lost communication with the Ingenuity Mars helicopter on January 18, during its 72nd flight. During the last flight, the vehicle reached an altitude of 12 meters and remained in the air for 4.5 seconds, and contact was lost when it landed.
Struggling to establish contact with the vehicle, NASA recently announced that the rotor wing of the Ingenuity Mars helicopter was damaged and could no longer fly. Despite this, NASA is still investigating why communication was lost.
