The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to take a step toward the moon with the new Artemis missions. However, setbacks are delaying the project. Lastly, the space agency couldn’t launch the Artemis I rocket one more time due to a hydrogen leak that was realized at the last moment.
NASA wasn’t able to launch Artemis I
The Artemis I mission could be an important step for a mission to send a crew up to the Moon. However, the massive project is facing problems. The agency would have launched the rocket on August 29th, but it had issues with the engine bleed system that helps get to a proper temperature before takeoff.
NASA shared a post on Twitter about the delay of the Artemis I launch. The space administration first noticed the hydrogen leak this morning; then, the rocket started being fueled with liquid hydrogen. The team made three troubleshooting attempts, but the leak continued to be a problem. After that, Launch Director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson decided to cancel the launch attempt.
NASA said on Twitter, “The Artemis I mission to the Moon has been postponed. Teams attempted to fix an issue related to a leak in the hardware transferring fuel into the rocket but were unsuccessful. Join NASA leaders later today for a news conference.”
If the Artemis missions are successful, NASA will send humans back to the Moon next years. They will not land on the ground; they will just be flying around the Earth’s satellite.
