NATO and Nokia join forces! 5G era in the military

In addition to its wide smartphone portfolio, Nokia also has significant investments in 5G technology. In this context, Nokia and NATO officials recently met. They came together to incorporate company technologies into NATO’s military operations.

Nokia recently announced that it met with officials from NATO’s Allied Transformation Command. Tommi Uitto, Head of Mobile Networks and Mike Loomis, Head of Federal Solutions at Nokia, and Philippe Lavigne, Supreme Allied Commander for Allied Transformation, discussed possible partnerships between the two organizations.

NATO plans to switch to 5G technology in military operations with allied countries. 5G is characterized by much faster data transfer, lower latency and greater network capacity. This could bring significant benefits to NATO forces.

According to Nokia, many different use cases for 5G are possible. For example, 5G-powered augmented reality technologies can be provided to soldiers to provide situational awareness. It can also be incorporated into NATO’s activities in the air, land, sea, space and cyber domains.

Bilateral operations were also discussed in the statement on the meeting. It was stated that 5G technologies developed by Nokia are planned to be included in NATO exercises and planning processes.

On the other hand, Nokia toured the US Navy’s 5G facilities to learn more. It remains unclear how this agreement will affect NATO countries, including Turkey.
